Ferrari is delighted to announce a second world premiere in the year of its 70th Anniversary celebrations. The Ferrari Portofino is the new V8 GT set to dominate its segment thanks to a perfect combination of sportiness, elegance and on-board comfort. Powered by the Ferrari V8 turbo, a member of the engine family that won the overall International Engine of the Year Award in both 2016 and 2017, the new car punches out 600 cv and sprints from 0-200 km/h in just 10.8 seconds. The Ferrari Portofino is, in fact, the most powerful convertible to simultaneously offer a retractable hard top, roomy boot and generous occupant space that also includes two rear seats for short trips. The new car takes its name from one of the most charming towns on the Ligurian Riviera, Portofino, which has, over the years, has become an international icon of elegance and exclusivity. The new model is also the most versatile model in the range – a Ferrari designed to be driven every day that also effortlessly converts from an authentic ‘berlinetta’ coupé to a drop-top in just 14 seconds, even when on the move at low speeds. A brilliant marriage of design, technological content and performance, it is the perfect car for any occasion. Two examples are being shown on the Ferrari stand at Frankfurt. The first is in the new Rosso Portofino colour inspired by the picturesque town the model pays homage to. The second has a matte Grigio Alluminio Opaco livery referencing the lightweight metal used to build the entire car. The two new Portofinos are flanked by the rest of the current Ferrari range: a GTC4Lusso in a Blu America livery, a 812 Superfast with new triple-layer grey paintwork from the Tailor Made programme, and the 488 GTB in glorious Rosso Formula 1. The 488 Spider is showcased instead in the Tailor Made area. The version on display celebrates the company’s 70th Anniversary with a livery inspired by the Pinin Farina-bodied 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial spider once owned by Dominican gentleman driver Porfirio Rubirosa. The Ferrari Portofino made its debut for Prancing Horse customers with a two-day World Premiere held at the famous resort whose name it bears. It was launched in the presence of President Sergio Marchionne, Vice President Piero Ferrari and drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Sebastian Vettel, who arrived in Liguria accompanied by Maurizio Arrivabene, Managing Director and Team Principal of Formula One’s Scuderia. The Portofino, a new GT convertible with a 600 hp V8 engine, immediately won the hearts of guests who had two days to appreciate its design and versatility ahead of being able to take it for a test drive. The atmosphere was perfect on both nights: the marina area and its famous square, given over exclusively to Ferrari for the first time, was a scenic backdrop for the event. Guests departed from Santa Margherita Ligure, where they were met by a LaFerrari Aperta, the iconic car of the marque’s 70th anniversary, and travelled by ferry to Portofino where they were invited onto a floating theatre moored in the sea. The car emerged from behind a screen, as if by magic, against the background of the town and its promontory dominated by the colour red with the symbol of the Prancing Horse projected onto Castello Brown, symbol of this Ligurian town. After the gala dinner in the square, with music and entertainment, guests were invited to return to the floating platform for a farewell cocktail and a DJ set next to the Ferrari Portofino whose refined finishings they could continue to appreciate, from the retractable hard top to the many technological features that make it unique in its category. This is the brand new Ferrari Portofino, and in my mind it's the best looking GT convertible with a retractable hard top in the world! Join me for a first drive and look at the latest offering from Ferrari, the replacement to the California and California T, during the global premiere media drives. From exploring the exterior and design touches, to taking it for a blast on a wonderful road, let's discover what the Portofino is all about. Getting underway outside Bari, Italy, we can take a full look at the car with the roof up (stay tuned to see the mechanism and what it's like down). From items such as the styling and aero, to glancing at the 3.9l Twin Turbo V8 that makes 600PS and 760Nm. Then it's time to jump on the road and discover the driving modes and whether the Portofino could now be classed as a 'real' Ferrari. Finally a wrap-up with more of the interior and some final thoughts about what this gorgeous car is about. This particular Portofino is painted in the launch colour, 'Rosso Portofino' and wears a number of carbon fibre exterior options. The base price for the car comes in at £166k, but expect to spend £190k by the time you've kitted out your options. Thanks for watching, Tim Note: My apologies for the audio towards the end of the video, it seems as though the specific frequency of reverberation from the engine sound caused issues with the microphone in a short segment. Ferrari's latest open GT model is the new Portofino, released at the Frankfurt Motorshow to replace the California T. Named after the Italian seaside town, the revisions to the car take power to 600PS and 760Nm from the 3.9l TT V8, enhance the design and styling, while giving it a more complete silhouette with the roof up.
It has new technologies with E-diff 3 and electric steering for the first time on a Ferrari GT class car and the featured car is finished in Rosso Portofino, a lovely colour choice.
