Mike from 1rod1reelfishing and I are hitting the lake in Texas with FLW tour pro Tom Redington for some clear water fall bass fishing at Lake Travis. We learned something new on this fishing trip about new technology with pan optics from Garmin. This lake is one of the few places in Texas that holds the state fish, the Guadalupe Bass. Mike and Tom both caught their first guadalupe bass and we caught a ton of small largemouth bass too. With the lake being so clear, we had to down size the line and make long casts. The Garmin Pan optics unit that Tom was running was insane at picking up where the schools of bass and individual bass that were around the boat. Turning the trolling motor, Tom was able to pan around the pan, scanning the depths with sonar and locating bass in real time on the Pan Optics unit. We could even see schools of bass moving around us and know exactly where to cast! This was one of the most impressive peices of technology that I have ever seen on a bass boat. Tom shows how to opperate the fish finding unit and give some tips on finding bass in clear water lakes with rocks. As expensive and cool as it was, we didn't manage to catch any big fish out of the lake, but we had around 50 bass. During an exciting school of largemout coming up to the surface, I set one of Tom's really nice fishing rods to the side and it was actually pulled in by another fish when we were not looking! Garmin's Panoptix Livescope was the product that won best of show. It's the first only live scanning sonar for recreational fishing.
