A design and mechanical challenge that took over 20,000 hours of work to complete HOW IT'S MADE - Production Manufacturing. The new CUPRA e-Racer, brand’s first fully electric racing model, reaches 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, clocks a top speed of over 270 km/h and its engine exceeds 12,000 revs. It is a racing car that works on batteries, but has the power of a vehicle fuelled with petrol: A car with 6,072 battery cells: The battery on this electric car has the same power as the ones on 9,000 mobile phones connected at the same time. Its energy source consists in a total of 23 panels, each with 264 cells, and it takes 40 minutes to completely recharge. A battery that weighs half a tonne: At 450 kilos, it represents a third of the car’s entire weight. For this reason, “its positioning was one of the biggest challenges we had to face”, says Xavier Serra, the technical director of this project. It is so big and heavy that we had to distribute its volume throughout the lower part of the car to maintain its balance and functionality. Four engines on this car: “One of this vehicle’s most surprising aspects has to be its power”, affirms Xavier Serra. This model is equipped with four engines, located at the rear, enabling “the CUPRA e-Racer to reach 12,000 revolutions, compared to the 6,500 of a petrol powered race car, and all with a single gear”, Serra confirms. A winning design: “The main goal was to improve aerodynamics”. For this reason, the door mirrors were replaced with mini cameras, “to make the car more dynamic”, adds Serra. The driver can see everything that is happening around him on a large screen built into the dashboard. A mosquito on the asphalt: Serra affirms that the feeling at the wheel is different to that of a petrol powered car and the first thing that strikes you is “its acceleration”. The sound this vehicle makes is also something new: “Unlike a conventional car, this electric model makes a humming noise similar to a mosquito”. From a traditional Leon to a race car: The new CUPRA e-Racer model was built on the chassis of the SEAT Leon. Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised the company's first electric semi-truck would be mind-blowing, and he delivered. Musk took the wraps off the big rig on Thursday at Tesla's Design Studio in Hawthorne, California, and the vehicle's design was definitely what got the most attention. The semi can go 0-60 mph in five seconds without a trailer attached. The big rig has an impressive range of 500 miles per charge. With 80,000 pounds of cargo, it can make the same run in just 20 seconds. It can charge up to 400 miles in just 30 minutes when using a Megacharger, which is a new high-speed charger. The interior of the vehicle is minimalistic and designed around the comfort of the driver. The driver position is placed in the center of the vehicle, instead of on the left side. This helps provide greater visibility to the driver, Musk said. The cabin is also spacious enough for the driver to stand. Tesla will begin production of the vehicle in 2019. The company is currently taking reservations for the semi, but a deposit will set buyers back $5,000. With the next generation 90kWh battery, this all-wheel drive crossover will be able to get a range of about 310 miles.

A team of bright sparks have created the world’s first electric racing touring car - and the eco-friendly machine is quicker than most supercars.
The Cupra e-Racer, which is built by the performance wing of Seat, will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds.
It will do 0-124mph in 8.2 seconds and accelerate all the way to a top speed of 167mph - leaving many petrol-powered cars in its wake.
The staggering performance comes from an electric motor which develops the equivalent of around 670bhp.
