It isn't a bad game is it? Many fans were split by the decision of taking a beloved overhead adventure game and making it a side scroller. In this episode the Nerd picks up his sword and shield to go on an adventure into Hyrule. We'll see the Nerd give his honest opinion on Zelda 2 as he fights to the end, but can he beat it? Watch him rage as he dukes it out with Moblins, collects bags of Pee, travel treacherous terrain and after all that get some "hot coffee" from grateful townsfolk. Originally released in Japan in 1987 on the Family Computer Disk System and 1988 on the Nintendo Entertainment System in both America and Europe, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link was the first and only official side scrolling Zelda game in the series. Going on to become known as one of the worst, if not the worst Zelda games amongst fans due to its radical change and difficulty from the previous Zelda game. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview that whilst he didn't think Zelda 2 was a "bad game", he thought that they (Nintendo) could have made it a better experience but were held back by hardware limitations. To this day the Zelda franchise has experimented with different ideas over the years, with Zelda 2 being one of the more drastic but necessary steps into making one of the most beloved franchises of all time. DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THESE 8 RARE INTERNATIONAL CONSOLES? While North America has plenty of great game exclusives, Japan is the true capital of video games and has had many consoles released over the years. This is TheGamer's list of 8 Game consoles that never made it to America. What console do you wish you could try out? A majority of these consoles weren’t very popular while others were just precursors to some of our favorite consoles of all-time. One of Nintendo’s first ever home consoles was released in Japan and known as the Nintendo Color TV-Game 6. It features one game with multiple variations of the game and was essentially a version of Pong. Casio released a console in Japan catered exclusively to girls. The design was female oriented along with the games and special features. The Bandai Playdia was a home console filled with educational games and released exclusively to Japan. The Amstrad GX4000 was Britain’s answer to the console wars, but it failed miserably due to cheaper computer games at the time. The FM Towns Marty was able to play Cd-Rom games, but lacked the graphics capabilities that made the Playstation a huge hit. The NEC PC-FX has a great look and controller but failed to capitalize on the games and never took off like it should have. Sega’s first console was the SG-1000 and has many differences from the Sega Master System and Sega Genesis we grew to know and love. The Game Boy faced international competition in the form of the Bandai Wonderswan, but the portable console came out just a little too late to make a big impact. The Holy Grail? Who needs that when you have an NWC Cart?
In 1990 Nintendo sponsored a video game tournament called The Nintendo World Championships the tournament was based on the movie The Wizard and was part of a huge festival called Powerfest which toured twenty-nine cities across the US.
The Nintendo World Championship Cartridge was made up of three NES Games these games were Super Mario Bros., Rad Racer, and Tetris and used a point scoring system to determine the winner.
The tournament finalists each got to keep their own copy of the game which was a Gray cart with a white label however there exists a Gold version which were given away as prizes in The Nintendo Power Magazine only 26 of these games were ever made.
Now the Nerd must tackle what has come to be known as the Holy Grail of NES collecting has he found a real NWC Cart or will it remain forever out of his reach.
