WEIRDEST Airplane Designs In The World

From a flying tank to the world’s largest plane built by internet tycoons, here are 16 Weirdest aircraft designs ever. Subscribe to American Eye http://goo.gl/GBphkv 5. V-22 Osprey It’s a plane it’s a helicopter, It’s kinda both? This is definitely the most expensive, airplane helicopter hybrid thing the US uses! And also one of the weirdest designs too. It’s actually known as a tiltrotor aircraft. It combines the small landing spaces that helicopters have with the high speed and gliding capabilities of an airplane. The small landing space needed for this aircraft makes it a popular choice for the navy and are often deployed from aircraft carriers. It’s not just the the price per Osprey that costs a lot but also the sheer number of Ospreys the government has constructed. these use a Rolls Royce T406 Engine that allow them to reach top speeds of 351 miles per hour. V-22 Ospreys cost about 72 million dollars each and the US is looking to build at least 400 of these total, so if you do the math that’s about $28,800,000,000 within the next couple of years on this strange aircraft. Maybe the military thinks the strange design will scare off enemy soldiers? Who knows. 4. Blohm and Voss BV 141 This strange aircraft designed by the Germans during world war two is a reminder that not all planes need to by perfectly symmetrical in order to fly. The Blohm and Voss BV 141 was designed as a reconnaissance aircraft to scout the battlefield and a few dozen were actually built. Despite it flying quite well actually, it never went into full-scale production. The little compartment on the right side of the plane would have stored a machine gunner. There are no more of these airplanes on display at museum or anywhere. The allies came across quite a few wrecked Blohm and Vosses but never were able find one that actually worked. 3. Focke Wulf FW 189 Also known as the Eagle Owl, the Germans actually prefered using this strange aircraft for reconnaissance and not the Blohm and Voss. It began flying in 1938 and featured a twin engine, twin boom, three-seat tactical reconnaissance and worked in cooperation of the army. It turned out to be the most conventional option the germans had for reconnaissance but nonetheless, fairly bizarre looking. This is due to the heavily glazed central pod and the unique tail design. It was often used for training new pil---ots before they got into more expensive aircraft. It saw constant usage from 1942 to 1944 when it reached full-scale production. With a range of 412 miles, it could certainly give the army a bird’s eye view of nearby borders. 2. The Stratolaunch This massive plane has a wingspan larger than a football field at 385 feet. It features a total 6 engines that are used on boeing 747’s. It’s also 5 stories tall and weighs an astonishing 500,000 pounds! To power such a massive aircraft, you’re gonna need a massive amount of fuel. It can also carry 250,000 pounds of fuel. Including cargo, it can weigh up to 1.3 million pounds! This beats out the spruce goose for being the plane with the largest wingspan by a good 65 feet. So what the heck are they doing with such a huge plane? It’s certainly not for carrying passengers and the world's largest plane is actually built for launching rockets to send satellites into space. The small satellites that it’s launching are only about 1000 pounds each. The plane flys up about 35,000 feet before it releases a pegasus xl rocket attached to a satellite. This is basically what the rich internet tycoons are doing with their spare time and the Amazon CEO got in on the investment for this. The company stratolaunch was actually founded by a Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Ultimately, this should make launching satellites into space much easier once it’s ready to operate in 2019 and by then, hopefully we won’t have satellites spying on our every move. 1. Dornier Dossier During the Cold War, the commanders of Nato got together and attempted to come up with the proper aircraft that would be able to protect Germany in the case of an all out war. Western Germany was by all means, an extremely important piece of land during this time and they needed it to be well protected. Germany spent millions of dollars attempting to produce an aircraft that could get into the air quickly with as a little runway space as possible. Here in this photo we see the Dornier Do 31E, getting ready for an experimental flight. This strange aircraft will ultimately be recognized right away by it’s long needle nose design. That thing really looks like it could poke an eye out. The first prototype flew in 1967 and continued until 1971. The vertical lift design didn’t prove to be effective for the large plane and ultimately it failed.

Top 10 Worst Concept Cars of 2017

More often than not, concept cars turn out to be pretty ugly. This is probably down to the fact that concept cars are meant to portray an automaker's future design vision, and they are thus purposefully overstyled. This year seemed to be a particularly bad year for concept cars, though, with many being weird-looking autonomous pod vehicles with unspecified electric powertrains and mythical self-driving features. And don't even get us started on the onboard social media screens, eye-tracking devices for infotainment control and other unneeded technology features. Today we're going to countdown our 10 least favorite concepts from 2017. These aren't listed in any particular order - if you ask us, they are all equally as bad. Anything that falls under the category of "future mobility" is almost guaranteed to be ugly, misguided and entirely pointless, so the majority of the list is made of up of those things.
